"We make a living by what we GET. But we make a life by what we GIVE."
-- Winston Churchill
The world is, to say the least, in need of a little help.
Fortunately, a lot of caring people have devoted their lives to providing that help, making the world a better place by creating and running non-profit organizations whose missions are to effect positive change in the world.
These charities work for peace, for a sustainable earth, for greater understanding between people and greater reverence for the planet we live on. They make a huge difference in the world; but creating the necessary awareness of their efforts and, especially, raising the funds necessary to continue those efforts is a monumental task.
One of my main missions for Simply Begin is to introduce more people to these charities and the important work they do, and give them a financial boost, as well.
I will highlight a number of non-profits throughout the year in the Good News portion of the weekly meditations, and I will be donating 20% of the gross proceeds from Simply Begin subscriptions to one of these worthy causes every year.
This year I will be supporting the Esalen Institute, where I started Simply Begin back in 2016.
Physically, the Esalen Institute occupies a patch of incredibly beautiful terra firma where the sacred waters of a hot mineral spring and the cold, clear water of a cascading canyon stream join the eternal ebb and flow of the Pacific Ocean on the Big Sur coast of California. Conceptually, Esalen occupies a realm of human development and potential limited only by the human imagination.
It is a retreat center, but as the website points out, it exists to serve the world -- not as a refuge from it: "We believe in the deeply transformative power of this place, recognizing that retreat and refuge must always be, ultimately, in the service of something larger than yourself. So we are organized to give you the tools to unleash latent capacities and re-energize your sense of purpose — for yourself and the world."
I credit Esalen with providing me the necessary creative space and inspiration to give my Simply Begin dream the wings to fly forward into the world, and am proud to support them financially.
